Who does not know the singing nun Sœur Sourire and her song Dominique.
But did you know that there have also been singing nuns in the Netherlands?
Three nuns of the Order of the Sisters of Charity in Venray formed together "The Singing Sisters of Charity“.
They were Sister Marie Laetitiae de Boeck (1923-2017) from Bergen op Zoom, Sister Jovita Janssen (1930-1983) from Groeningen, and Sister Anne-José Billekens (1933-2009) from Venlo.
In 1965 they had a national TV appearance at the television show of Willem Duys 'Voor de vuist weg‘.
This was their debut on television.
The performance was on the occasion of the inauguration of the transmitter in Roermond for the second television network at that time called Nederland 2.
In 1976 they also appeared on television with Rudi Carrel (a Dutch television entertainer).
One of the most famous songs was Morgen zal het beter zijn, (tomorrow it will be better) a melody that will resound in your head all day long.
